The Mochi Donut

The mochi donut, poi mochi, or pon de ring are a delicious fusion of the classic American donut and traditional Japanese mochi. It was first introduced in Japan by Mister Donut, a popular Japanese donut chain.  It has a slightly sweet taste and a chewy airy texture with a crisp outer shell. Its distinct ring shape made up of 8 mochi balls gives it an iconic shape. Following its introduction, they have taken the world by storm. At Hochi Mochi, we are proud to bring this dessert to life!

The process

We start with preparing our homemade dough by combining the dry ingredients. We then hand-sieve tofu and whip it with eggs, and water. We fold together the mixtures and fuse the two into a dough. Each ball is hand-rolled onto parchment paper and united with others to form the pon de ring. We cut donut squares of the parchment and fry the dough to perfection. We then glaze and top our donuts to get a beautiful product.

Meet the Team!

Our story

We were founded in 2020 during the peak of the pandemic being singlehandedly run by our founder. As an 8th grader passionate about business, culture, and culinary carts, she built Hochi Mochi out of her quarantine kitchen.

After 8 months of hard work, she sadly was burnt out balancing her other priorities with solely handling a business.

It was not until 2024 while doing a fundraiser, she found herself reigniting her love of making mochi donuts. She assembled a team of similarly interested individuals who shared a love of mochi donuts. Together, they decided to shift Hochi Mochi's focus to catering large events. Through teamwork and perseverance, they revitalized Hochi Mochi, shaping it into what it is today.
